LTCPA is offering the Medicare-approved LTC Card as a part of a new government program to improve access to the many medications required by low-income nursing facility residents. The card supplements the specialized services currently provided by LTCPA member pharmacies to 60 percent of all residents of skilled nursing facilities nationwide. LTC Cards are temporary (transitional) assistance cards sponsored by the LTCPA in association with ACS State Healthcare that provides low-income nursing facility residents with access to a $600 prescription drug benefit provided by the Medicare.

  • The LTC Card is a prescription drug discount card program is approved by Medicare but it is not a Medicare benefit.
  • The LTC Card is not intended to replace prescription drug benefits obtained through participation in insurance plans, including a Medicare Advantage plan, a Medigap policy, Medicaid, or an employer or retiree plan.
  • The LTC Card is available to all Medicare beneficiaries residing in nursing homes in the United States except for those who have prescription drug coverage under their state's Medicaid (Medical Assistance) program or those who are enrolled in a Medicare Managed Care Plan that offer its own Exclusive Approved Card Program.
  • Enrollees in Exclusive Approved Card Programs offered by Managed Care Organizations are not eligible for any card but the one offered by their plan.
